Preface

Indian Cultural Heritage Perspective For Tourism, portraying some of the diverse, special forms of tourism, attempts to put cultural heritage in general and Indian cultural heritage in particular in the larger context of tourism thus built. It traces the cultural heritage of India starting from the Indus Valley Civilisation through its ancient and medieval cultural fabrication by great religious reformers and emperors to the modern times
The book also explores, from a touristic perspective, the heart of Indian cultural tradition Le, ayurveda, yoga and meditation, without the knowledge of which any claim of having known India will be as lifeless as an empty shell.
Any book on cultural heritage tourism would be incomplete without addressing the issue of cultural identity of destination communities because the question whether tourism is conducive or destructive to the cultural identity of the concerned destination is a constant topic of a hotly ongoing debate. Thus, the book. investigating the impact of tourism on the cultural elements of a destination such as arts and crafts, deals with the contemporary issues of identity and authenticity from the perspective of cultural heritage tourism.
Indian Cultural Heritage Perspective For Tourism finally explores the problems and prospects of cultural heritage tourism in general and Indian cultural heritage tourism in particular by putting them in the global context.
