Vegetable is considered one of the most important commodities in agriculture and an impressive growth has been recorded in vegetable production since independence, which was merely  5.8 tons per hectare. However, there is need of to increase the vegetable productivity to meet the increasing demand of the growing populations. Challenges of shrinking land and water resources with a threat of climate change need an effective support in term of human resources vis-a-vis financial support for the development of technologies. In this book, authors have also given latest information’s in agriculture as special chapter General Agriculture for updating knowledge in agriculture for readers. Memory based questions which had been asked last 22 years (from 1997-2019) in competitive examinations of JRF/SRF/NET in Vegetable Science have also been given in this book.

About the Authors

Nagendra Rai began professional career as Junior Scientist in May 1993 and went up the ladder through Senior Scientist (Horticulture) at ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya and Principal Scientist (Vegetable Science) at Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi Taught several graduate/post-graduate level courses in horticulture (Vegetable Crops) and guided research of many students which led to Vegetable Science. Developed more than 25 varieties/ lines/ hybrids of vegetable award of M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines of crops like tomato, brinjal, cowpea, French bean, Indian bean and turmeric. Also generated production technologies in Vegetable Crops for various part of the country like Udham Singh Nagar of Uttrakhand, Raipur of Chhattisgarh and Umiam of Meghalaya. Fellows of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, International Society for Noni Sciences. Society for Horticultural Research and Development, Uttar Pradesh Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Indian Society of Vegetable Science. Recipient of Kirti Singh Lifetime Achievement Award, Harbhajan Singh Memorial Award, Research Paper Reviewer Award, Year of the Scientist Award, Distinguished Scientist Award, Young Scientist Associate Award and Crop Research Award. Publications 275 comprising research papers, books, book chapters, popular articles, technical bulletins/ manuals/ souvenirs and extension folders related to vegetable crops. Editor of Current Horticulture, Progressive Agriculture- An International Journal & Legume Research and Joint -Editor of Vegetable Science. Leadership in both fund mobilization and human resource development.
B.S. Asati possesses a meritorious academic record. He has an illustrious university career in agriculture, with an array of medals, prizes and scholarships. He has completed M.Sc. (Ag) Horticulture from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur obtaining first position in the department of Horticulture. He served for four years as Research Associate in ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam (Meghalaya). Presently, he and Research Station, Chhuikhadan, KCG under Indira Gandhi Krishi is Associate Professor, Rani Avanti Lodhi College of Agriculture Vishwavidyalaya ,  Chhattisgarh. He has number of research papers, popular articles, book chapters and technical bulletin to his credit. He has also a life membership of various journals and magazines.
Krishna Kumar Rai has completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from, Amity University, Noida. He has served 5 years as Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in DBT/CAR funded projects at Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, where he has worked on deciphering biochemical and molecular mechanisms linked to biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in tomato and Indian bean plants. He has published quality research papers and book chapters in the field of plant physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology. He has completed his Ph.D. degree from Institute of Sciences, Department of Botany, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi .
